Family Time!

We never spend the time. We take it for granted never seeing family, never spending time. We live our lives separate from the ones we love. Sometimes they are far away. More often than not they are down the street or around the corner. We go months without talking, having dinner, spending time. Then…. then it is too late. It is all over. Someone dies. Gone. Or they are dying and to sick to spend the time, to out of it to understand. They are leaving or they have left. It is over. Forget about being upset because of some […]

Stop It!

Stop comparing yourself to others. Compare you to yourself. Are you better now than you were yesterday? When you compare yourself with others you are only seeing the best in them and the worst in you. The comparison will never be balanced. Just have a goal of being a little better version of you every day. You will always make mistakes and some days feel like a terrible person. That is OK. We all do it. Just keep pushing forward. Love the good and the bad. The bad is what makes you strong and the good is the reward for […]

Why is it that it seems these days people are offended by everything? Have we really become so weak that we cannot handle someone’s opinion without offense? Should we worry about offending others? Sure. We should not be trying to intentionally offend someone, but a the same time we should not have to worry about others being offended by everything. You do not have to agree with my opinion, but being offended by it is a problem. Are there offensive things in this world? Why yes there are. We need to learn to discern between something truly offensive and something […]

A Journey

. .I find it amazing, how our capacity to love can grow and change over time. How you can always find room to love more. Even when you think or feel like there is no room left at all. Let me tell you a story some of you know it some may not. In 2011 Jaclyn and I came to the decision that we felt lead to adopt. Jaclyn had always wanted to adopt. I, on the other hand, was never convinced I wanted to go that route. Also at this time we were preparing to go on a global […]

Mayonnaise Jar and Two Beers

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was… The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was… The […]

What I’ve learned from going back to school?

It was fall of 2011 when I started praying about going back to school to get my counseling degree. I had no idea how I would do it or how long it would take to accomplish this God-sized feat. That was even before I threw 3 teenagers in to the mix!! 18 months after I began school I’m half way there. In just a few short days I will have my Bachelor’s of Science in Organizational Management. I’ve learned a few things along the way….. 1. When you go back to school, you don’t go alone While you might be […]

WHO is Kris Kringle

Santa Claus by George Hodan I was curious why “Santa” had so many names so I looked it up. He is based on Saint Nicholas as we know “Santa” anyway. The name Kris Kringle is also associate with “Santa” but why? Well check out this wiki link  looks like it is german, means Christ Child. Well that completely changed the name Kris Kringle in my view. Also it looks like the name Santa Claus. There are many more name around the world that reference jesus. So even though we have some times think things are bad or what ever views are out there. If you look […]

The Forgotten Birdbath

Sixteen months. That’s how long it sat there. Day in and day out I walked right past it on my way into work. It had been moved to the front of the building during renovations and had never been given a new home. For the first few weeks I’d see it and think I should find that birdbath a new home but eventually that thought faded and it just became part of the usual scenery. What does a forgotten birdbath have to do with our spiritual walk you might ask? I see that birdbath as a physical picture of those […]

My Reluctant Prayer

Have you ever prayed a prayer and in the back of your mind wondered, am I really ready for God to answer this?  It’s kind of like when you pray for patience.  You’d prefer that it be sprinkled on you like fairy dust rather than going through the inevitable circumstances that are going to present themselves to teach you the patience you desire.  I’ve been reading through the Psalms and a few weeks ago I read a verse that caught my eye.  As I read it I thought, this should be my prayer, but right after that thought came this […]

Somebody please stop the ride, I’d like to get off?

Roller coasters, Ferris wheels, the teacups at Disney… To some this sounds like a fantastically fun way to spend the day. To me this sounds like some kind of horrible torture that would most definitely result in me taking medication for my vertigo. There are days that even though I’m not riding a spinning contraption of doom I feel like I’m spinning out of control. Some days this feeling is medically related but some days it’s not. You know the days I’m referring to. The days where your phone never stops ringing, the emails don’t stop coming and if you […]

My Worst Job Ever

I think we have all had one(or maybe more than one) job that would qualify as awful! Right after I graduated high school, I got a new and exciting job at a local store. I was so excited for this new position even though I didn’t know exactly what I’d be doing. I showed up on Monday morning ready to work and boy was I surprised, my new position was in the warehouse sanding, painting and assembling huge industrial shelves. I wasn’t strong enough to sand the shelves much less assemble them. This was a job that I was not […]

“Is Jesus enough for me?”………….. This is the question that Susan asked us to ask ourselves Tuesday night. I’m not sure about anyone else, but it has been stuck in my mind ever since. I am a definer so I pulled out my trusty iphone (I’m a tangible with a little techy thrown in) so that I could define the word enough. This is the definition: “sufficient to meet a need or satisfy a desire.”  WOW! I still have trouble wrapping my very small cranium around the fact that the God who stilled the sea and placed the stars in the […]
